A major food and beverage manufacturer in Southern New Jersey has asked us to help them identify a Site Quality Assurance Manager who’ll be responsible for leading the transformation of the Food Safety and Quality culture at this manufacturing facility.
Is this a hands-on role?
Yes – some Site Quality Assurance Manager roles are “maintenance” roles. Maintaining standards, maintaining culture.
This is not that role.
This is a hands-on Site Quality Assurance Manager role responsible for communicating and influencing the behavior of the ENTIRE team at this manufacturing site.
Will I get stuck in this role and not be able to move up or out after a couple years?
Only if you let yourself 🙂
This company is a global manufacturer with its growth coming from different categories, different channels and different markets(domestic and international).
You can use this role as a launching pad for a corporate career, an international assignment or into a larger site role.
The impact you’ll have at this facility will be your “meal ticket” for the rest of your career.
What’s the biggest challenge at this facility?
There are two – the first is staying on top of pathogens at each stage of the manufacturing process. Although not uncommon, this is a front and center priority for the company to stay on top of.
The second is Change Management – the company, at the highest level, is committed to and has assembled a strong Food Safety team at the corporate level – they need the same level of expertise at the Site-level so that standards and protocols are executed with the executive team’s vision in mind.
The opportunity sounds great, but I’m not sure about Southern New Jersey.
This is totally understandable. Keep in mind that a Site Quality Manager like this is not a “rest of your life” role.
You may come to love the area and want to stay – the location is close to Philadelphia, Delaware and Maryland – a great mix of rural, metropolitan and coastal environs that are all within a short drive.
Should it not be your “forever home”, bear in mind your career will look markedly different 2-3 years from now after you’ve led the transformation at this facility.
Once you’ve taken on assignments where you’ve led a Food Safety transformation, you can start calling your shots on locations and geography – if you’re still looking for that opportunity to “make a difference”, this could be the one.
What type of background are they looking for?
Degreed in Food Science, Microbiology or Chemistry.
Supervisory and/or Management experience in a food manufacturing environment.
Excellent communication and influencing skills
I’m interested – let’s connect!
